Why I Love Autumn and You Should, Too!

The time of year is upon us when the temps cool a bit, the sun sets a little earlier, and all things basic comes out. It’s freaking Autumn!!! This season can be a period of reflection and preparation for the new year so it's important to make time for fun. If you've been keeping up with me then you know I'm for low-cost activities (you can read about my summer activities here). As a CT resident, I love this time of year for more reasons than one. I’m so glad to share with you why I love it so much. Leggo!!

  1. I may have been born in the South but I was raised in New England. The part of the US where it can be any of the four seasons on any given day, lol. The changing weather does not stop us from turnin’ up and continuing to enjoy the outside activities. One of my favorite things to do is go to a local fair. There are so so so many doggone fairs and festivals, you will spend all your money trying to keep up with nostalgia. In CT, there are more than a dozen towns who have fairs in September alone.

Favorite event: The Eastern States Exposition in Agawam, MA

2. Nothing beats the beautiful foliage. Everywhere you turn there are so many warm colors and all you have to do is look up. I drive about 40 minutes to work and am blessed to have the beautiful foliage to accompany me. The changing leaves are great because you can make artwork with the kids, take a host of photos, or sit quietly and meditate.

Favorite event: take a drive through CT, MA, or VT and enjoy nature. 2017 foliage map

3. Apple Picking! Going to pick apples (and now pumpkins thanks to my six-year-old nephew) is an annual tradition. This can be a low-cost activity that will provide you with healthy eats and beautiful photos. For the past two years, we have gone apple picking at Lyman Orchards. They have 1100 acres of farmland and have been in business for 275 years! They are set in the heart of CT and host several pick-your-own periods throughout the year. What I love about them is the staff is always so friendly and they have several events that are great for families and couples alike for free or very cheap. While the apple picking season is coming to an end (it ends in October), they have a store, the Apple Barrel, where you can get eco-certified fruits and local vegetables year round. And if that's not enough, Lyman's has the best apple cider and apple cider donuts. We never leave the farm without the donuts!

4. The major reason I love Autumn is because of my Birthday! Team Scorpio baby! This time of year is always a season of contemplation and reflection. As I gear up to turn a year older, I am reflecting on the things I’ve learned this year, what I’ll keep, and what I can move on from. Stay tuned for my reflections on the last year and my goals for the year to come.
